Like all of Edgar Wright's material, I didn't appreciate The World's End much on the first watch. But it's imminently re-watchable and fun. Still not as awesome as Hot Fuzz.
Simon Pegg plays Gary King, an alcoholic whose life peaked the summer after high school. In an attempt to relive the magic, he cajoles and badgers his old friends to revisit the Golden Mile - a stretch of 12 pubs in their home town. Once there, the lads discover the town has been taken over by alien robots.
There's more going on than that though. The group have friends had fallen apart because of Gary's drinking problems. He jealous of their lives being better, yet few of them seem particularly happy. Then there is the alien robots - what is their motive for replacing people with replicas?
It's not a terribly complicated plot but it is fun. More like Shaun of the Dead than Hot Fuzz. The World's End is a good watch when it randomly comes on cable.
I just discovered that the group of 5 friends are named King, Prince, Knight(ly), Chamberlain and Page.
